Necole Schmitz’s work uses sculpture, installation and performance to explore ideas surrounding interactions between the artist and viewer in the context of the experiential use of space. She studied painting at Boston University then went on to complete a master’s degree in fine art at Chelsea College of Art in London earning a distinction.
Necole has exhibited widely in the USA, UK and abroad. Exhibitions and residencies have included the 2014 Marrakech Biennial, Whitstable Biennale and the Bristol Biennale. She went on to complete a fellowship at Chelsea College of Art Foundry. More recently she was a visiting artist at University of Arizona.
Necole co-runs Coles Castings, an artist led foundry in North Dorset. She has led on several projects including casting telescope mirrors for the Science Museum using historically sensitive methods and materials. She has a special interest in historical and obsolete foundry techniques and how we can look to the past to find a more sustainable future in sculpture making. Schmitz currently lives and works in Dorset.
